Istanbul Grand Airport

A pair of Ospreys for Turkey’s newest airport

By News

One of the world’s newest most advanced airports, Istanbul Grand Airport (IGA), has just taken receipt of two of the world’s most advanced runway surface cleaners, the Osprey LA2200.

With its first commercial flight on 31 October 2018, Istanbul Grand Airport will shortly replace Atark Airport and become the region’s primary air hub, with an initial capacity of 90 million passengers, ramping up to potentially 200 million passengers when completed.

To keep the two runways, eight taxiways and 4 million m2 of apron safe and clear of the rubber deposits created by landing aircraft, the airport has purchased the Osprey LA2200 water jet cleaning vehicles from UK-based Jetting Systems. The vehicle uses ultra high pressure water jets to remove paint and rubber without damaging the runway surface or the need to use harmful detergents.

In December, the team from Turkey visited Jetting Systems at their facilities near Salisbury, Wiltshire to examine their new Osprey and to witness the acceptance tests at Oxford Airport. The machine is now in Istanbul for final commissioning and staff training.

Feridun Coskun of UMTAŞ Uluslararası Makina Ticaret AŞ, Jetting System’s partner in Istanbul said, “Having already supplied five Osprey machines into the Turkish Military and Civil Aviation sector we are establisged as the premier supplier of runway rubber reoval equipment in Turkey. We are delighted to be involved in this exciting new chapter in the Turkish aviation history.

New Osprey arrives in Qatar

By News

The Qatar Armed Forces have just taken receipt of an advanced Osprey LA2200 water jet cleaning vehicle from Jetting Systems.

The vehicle will be based at Al Udeid Air Base, south west of Doha which, as well as home to the Qatari Air Force, is also used by the Royal Air Force, United States Air Force and other coalition partners.

Following delivery in October, the vehicle underwent commissioning by Jetting Systems newest team member, Kevin Payne. After joining earlier this year, former RAF engineer Kevin has already visited Qatar, UAE, Italy and Turkey to put his skills into action for commissioning new Osprey machines, delivering training to operators and maintainers as well as servicing equipment out in the field.

Indonesia gets new Osprey

By News

Wiltshire-based airport equipment manufacturer, Jetting Systems, has recently provided a new runway rubber removal system to Kualanamu International Airport, near Medan, Indonesia.

Opened in 2013, Kualanamu International Airport is the second largest airport in Indonesia, and will eventually have a capacity of 50 million passengers/year. The airport currently has a single 3750m runway, two taxiways and 13,700 m2 of apron and cargo area.

The Osprey LA2200 that has been purchased by airport operator, PT Angkasa Pura II,  removes the rubber deposits left on the runways by landing aircraft, which reduce the grip available to other aircraft. The vehicles are also used quickly and efficiently remove paint and clean ground-based airfield lights.
